Fire Pit Safety

There are many factors to consider when adding a fire pit to your outdoor activities. Safety should be your number 1 concern.

  1. Select the Right Site. Make sure the site you choose for your fire pit is level ground. Especially if you are using a portable fire pit.
  2. Location to Surroundings. Fire pits must be kept 10 to 20 feet away from your surroundings, including your home, buildings, and plants. Observe the distance required by law. Check with your local city and county authorities.
  3. Look Around, Look Up. Never use your fire pit beneath a building overhang or in a partially enclosed space. Use extreme caution with overhanging trees that could easily ignite. Make sure to surround your fire pit with non-combustible materials, like crushed stone, brick, or sand.
